Bears catching fish in the Tongass Forest.

Anan Bear Observatory

Choose Alaska Charters and Adventures for this unforgettable experience! Our Anan Wildlife Observatory excursions are 6 to 9 hours in length and fully guided by our highly trained staff that include certified naturalists.  Tours depart from Wrangell on a scenic one hour boat cruise.  Once you arrive at Anan, plan for a half mile walk on a well maintained trail to the observatory deck and photo blind.  We’ll spend most of the day here above Anan Creek watching bears feed on salmon. We keep our groups very small (generally 6 or fewer) with customized itineraries to improve your opportunity to view and photograph wildlife in its natural setting.  We often depart Wrangell early for better lighting and increased opportunity in the photo blind.  Alaska Charters & Adventures has a reputation for providing their clients with longer viewing experiences and expert naturalist interpretation.

For the most serious wildlife enthusiast and professional photographer we regularly offer the boat and guide privately.  We’ll stay on site as long as the US Forest Service will allow and dedicate the entire schedule to your specific objectives and agenda.

Anan Wildlife Observatory visits are best in July and August and highly sought after.  Visits require a special permit that are limited in number for each day.  Early reservations for this tour are highly recommended.  $338.00 per person.  Please call us so we can tell you more about this once in a lifetime trip.  1-888-993-2750.

Anan Creek is located on the Tongass National Forest (35 miles) South East of Wrangell, Alaska, accessible only by boat or float plane.  Anan Wildlife Observatory is world renowned for its extraordinary bear viewing opportunities.  Home to one of Alaska’s largest pink salmon runs, it attracts a significant number of bears, both black and brown, as well as hundreds of eagles, seals, and other wildlife that rely on the salmon as a major food source.
Anan Creek and Bay and its salmon run have been culturally significant for decades as local natives and now other visitors enjoy its incredible beauty and astonishing richness.  A day trip to Anan is one of the best ways to see bears and other wildlife in their natural setting.  Stunning scenery and lots of action!

SMALL GROUPS AND NO CROWDS: While we have the capability to accommodate larger groups, we feel that wildlife viewing and photography along with real wilderness surroundings are best experienced by very small groups. Being part of a large tour group doesn’t lend itself to the up close and personal experience we strive to provide our guests.

PERSONALIZED SERVICE: If you choose to be one of our guests, you’ll be more than just a number in a crowd. You can expect us to recognize your individual interests, limitations and expectations.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Our mission at Alaska Charters and Adventures is to provide you with the highest quality guides and captains, and we carefully select your guide the day you book with us. We offer you Wrangell’s only state certified guides, in addition to being certified Naturalists, we are also Cultural and Alaskan Hosts. You can expect to be led by a highly trained, mature, and professional guide.

TRIP LENGTH: Alaska Charters and Adventures is unique in that we only offer FULL day excursions. We don’t over crowd our schedule with multiple departures each day. What this means for you is that you can linger for that perfect photo and enjoy plenty of opportunities to get out and take in the scenery. All our departure times are customized to meet your needs, optimize wildlife viewing and lighting. Why rush? More time is more opportunity to experience Alaska’s remarkable nature.
